Charles Bruce Payne, 69, of Newberry, widower of Sue Ellen Wicker Payne, died Sunday, December 21, 2014, at his residence. Born on February 19, 1945, in Lancaster, he was a son of the late Lonnie Leroy and Florence Baker Payne. He was retired from the SC Department of Transportation, was a former SC State Trooper and also previously worked for Senn Trucking Company. Mr. Payne was a member of St. Philip's Lutheran Church where he was a dedicated bus driver for church activities. He also attended Wightman United Methodist Church. He was a former volunteer fireman, Shriner and Mason. He is survived by daughters, Angela Payne Erhardt of Little Mountain, Amy Payne (Barry) Shealy and Melanie Payne (Keith) Thrower both of Newberry; a brother, Glenn (Natalie) Payne of Seneca; mother-in-law, Virginia Wilson Wicker of Newberry and seven grandchildren. Mr. Payne was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at St. Philip's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick and Rev. Dean Lollis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00- 7:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 1741, Greenwood, SC 29648.
