Robert "Bob" Farlee could easily pass hours just sitting around visiting and telling stories. Over the last few years those stories often revolved around his five grandchildren whom he loved dearly and was so proud of them. He was fun-loving and a tease, and his grandchildren's responses were the source of many stories he delighted in telling.

Bob, who ranched and farmed near Lantry and worked for Farlee Trenching and Backhoe, enjoyed many hobbies, most of which allowed him to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, rodeo and playing cards, especially euchre, cribbage and most recently poker. He enjoyed trap shooting.

It ended when Bob died while enjoying a dinner. He choked while eating and died within minutes at the Gettysburg Medical Center on Friday, April 21, 2006, at the age of 59.

He was born June 21, 1946, in Pierre to Don and Tina (Stambach) Farlee. He attended school in Lantry to the eighth grade and then attended high school in Dupree where he graduated in 1964. Following graduation he attended Black Hills State University in Spearfish for one semester.

On March 20, 1978, Bob married Judy Jewett in Pierre and they made their home in Lantry. Bob began ranching and farming and working with the family trucking business in 1964. He also finished his father's term on the Dewey County Commission in 1972. For many years he drove for East-West Motor Express out of Black Hawk, but took a couple years off to run the American Legion in Dupree. Most recent was his work with the Farlee Trenching and Backhoe.

He leaves his wife Judy of Lantry; daughter Jaime (Chad) Pulling of Whitewood; sons Donnie Farlee and John Farlee of Lantry; grandchildren Jayda Farlee and Desirae, Alex, Peter and Paul Pulling; three brothers, Keith (Tiny) Farlee of Lantry, Clinton (Jean) Farlee of Dupree and Donnie (Mary) Farlee of Dupree; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents, Don and Tina Farlee, brother Frederick Farlee and father-in-law Pinky Jewett preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Bob were this afternoon, Wednesday, April 26, at the Dupree School Gym. The Rev. Ellis Carr officiated. Frank Thompson was soloist. Jerry Farlee and Rick Farlee were ushers.

Casketbearers were Robert Martin, Rodney Martin, Rob Farlee, Enoch Farlee, Shane Farlee, Russell Brehmer, Jerry Keith Farlee and Leon Farlee.

Honorary bearers were Ralph and Kathy Maynard and family, Tom and Diane Gesinger and family, Pete Klaudt, John and Pam Klaudt, Rollis Griffin and Connie Martin, Pal Klaudt, Blaine Nordvold, Tom Whishard and family, Johnny and Sharon Holloway and family, Randy Pritzkau, Vernon and Sue Starr and family, Charlie and Ruby Brooks and family, Mick Tennant, Clayton Lemke, East-West Truckers and staff, Bob's Steakhouse staff, Telephone Authority staff and the Farlee Trenching crew.

Burial was in the Dupree Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
