William Eugene Stone, age 74 of Old Rome Pike, former commissioner of public works for the city of Lebanon, died Sunday March 5 1989 in Baptist Hospital in Nashville from heart failure.
Services will be March 7 1989 at Partlow-Atwood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Wilson County Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Stone was a native of Lebanon and the son of Albert and Mattie Stone.
Mr. Stone served as Lebanon's Commissioner of Public Works from 1948 to 1958. In addition he served in the state legislature from 1962 to 1966, in the Lebanon City Council from 1969 to 1974 and as Wilson County Road Superintendent from 1961 to 1967. He was a member of the Wilson County Quarterly Court for 15 years.
He was active in the Boy Scouts of America and was presented with the Silver Beaver and Long Rifle awards for his service to that organization. He was a past president of the Lebanon Lions Club and a member of College Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Whitby Stone, one son and one daughter all of Lebanon and four grandchildren.
