Steve B Sarafin, 69 of Elkhart, passed away at his home December 24, 2014 at 4:40 a.m. He was born June 3, 1945 in Gary, IN to Boris & Luba (Traycoff) Sarafin. On May 12, 1968 in Gary he married Rita De La Rosa. She survives along with 4 children Christopher (Cheryl) Sarafin of Valparaiso, Paul (Erin) Sarafin of Lafayette, Peter Sarafin of New York, New York, and Amy (Scott) Sassaman of Elkhart. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Sabastian Wachsman-Sarafin of Bremehaven, Germany, Elizabeth Sarafin, Katherine Sarafin, and Gabriel Sarafin all of Valparaiso, Taeylr Sassaman and Bela Sassaman of Elkhart, 1 brother Alex (Melissa) Sarafin of Valparaiso, and 1 sister, Rosemary (Charles) Valasqez of Valparaiso and numerous nieces and nephews. Steve was a Structural Steel Designer and was also the owner of SBS Design Consultants of Valparaiso. He was a member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Goshen. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2014 at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Goshen; the service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church with Father Matthew Wade presiding. Burial will follow in Rice Cemetery. Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
