Laura Caryl Trent, 55, of Oceana, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, in a Charleston hospital after a sudden illness.

Born January 25, 1942, in Oceana, she was a daughter of Edith Garrett-Trent-Hammond (1916-2007) and the late Thelmar Trent (1906-1949).

Ms. Trent was a former employee of OH-9, Princeton, a 1959 Oceana High School graduate, and attended Concord College.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Carl W. Hammond (1904-Deceased).

Other than her mother, survivors include two aunts, Betty Garrett of Oceana and Peggy Garrett-Markert of Quincy, Ill., two uncles, Charles E. Garrett of Davin and Jerry Garrett of Dardenville, Ark.; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Evans Memorial Chapel, Oceana with Rev. Chalmer Abrams officiating. Burial followed in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
