Joseph (Ray) Adkison, 81, of Pensacola, FL, beloved husband, Daddy, Papaw and friend, stepped into Heaven on Sunday, December 21, 2014.Ray was born on November 9, 1933 in Elba, AL to Cary & Mae Adkison. He moved to Ponce de Leon, FL in his early teens. He served in the US Air Force. He was a long time member of Olive Baptist Church where he served as deacon, usher, Sunday School leader and teacher. He was the owner of Adkison's Gulf Service Station (later known as Adkison's Service Center) since 1959 in Pensacola, FL.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Wallace and Cary Adkison, Jr. and his sister, Mildred Snellgrove.He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 62 ½ years, Betty Adkison; daughter, Terri (Steve) Catches; sons, Jimmy (Robin), Timmy and Larry (Aisha) Adkison; five grandsons, Derek Catches, Daniel Catches, Colter Adkison, Austin Adkison and Dustin Adkison; two granddaughters, Shelby Adkison and Reanna Catches; three great grandchildren, Josalynn McAtee, Jadyn Catches and Tate Preston Lee; sisters, Lillian Johnson of Louisville, KY and Tottie Faye Huggins of Tampa, FL and many other relatives.Pallbearers will be Derek Catches, Daniel Catches, Dustin Adkison, Austin Adkison, Michael Lee and nephew, Mike Adkison of Mobile, AL.Visitation will be Friday, December 26, 2014, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Faith Chapel North, Cantonment, FL. Funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, December 27, 2014, at Olive Baptist Church, Pensacola, FL. Burial will be at Bayview Memorial Park, Pensacola, FL following the service.Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Olive Baptist Church Building Program.
