George and Sarah, along with their young family [Mary, Hannah, and Sarah], sailed to America some time between 1852 to 1854. They had two children [Elizabeth and Ellen*] at Hanover, North London, Connecticut, and two more [George and Williamina] at Greenfield, Franklin, Massachusetts.

They lost one son, John, at 10 months old, while still living in England. Ellen* and Williamina, died while in infancy, in the U.S.

In 1859, with their five remaining children [Mary Ann-13, Hannah-11, Sarah-7, Elizabeth-5, and George-3], they became pioneers to Utah with the Edward Stevenson Company. While on their journey across the plains to Utah, Sarah gave birth to a son on 11 July; they named him Moroni. But he would only bless them for a short while. Four days later, on 15 July, he passed away and they buried him on the Plains at Elm Creek. They arrived in Utah on 16 September.
