Jack was part of a eight man crew, on Handley Page – Halifax II S/No. HR717, sent for a bombing raid on Wuppertal, North Rhine, Germany. After take off nothing further was heard and the aircraft was reported as missing, it was later discovered that it had been shot down by a night fighter pilot. There were no survivors.
