July 21, 1898, promoted and transferred, Major, U S Volunteers. Served on the staff General Miles , in Puerto Rico, as Chief of Commissary. Contracted typhoid fever in service. Resigned from volunteer service, March 21, 1899. Discharged from Squadron A, March 22, 1899.
