Information from a descendant, James Burgett on 12 July 2002: "I would suspect that the reason there is little information on Adam was because he married Agnes in spite of the opposition of his parents. He was Catholic and she was Protestant and he would not ask her to convert. He was disowned, in those days that was serious stuff. He was also excommunicated from the Catholic church because he would not raise the children as Catholic, another bad thing back then. They moved to Iowa stayed there until death. I don't think there was ever any communication between them and parents. Adam lived with Mary and her family for some time and my mother was very close to him. She said she never heard him talk about his parents and no one ever brought up the subject."
Adam married for a second time to Rebecca Jane Dawson in 1881. She died on 1 December 1903 and was buried in the Shaul Cemetery also in Ottumwa, Iow.
