Helen Irene Medley Curry began July 10, 1929 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She was married to Louis D. Curry for 46 years until his passing in 1994. She met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in her youth and since her passing on December 19, 2014, shall be with him forevermore. Helen loved to take small, green plants and nurture them into tree-like wonders. Like those bountiful plants, she reached out to others and shared the fruits of her harvest. She bestowed home cooked meals, baked goods from scratch, greeting cards for every occasion, and an open door.
Even the greater community was touched by Helen. She retired from St. John’s Hospital as a nurse technician after 35 years. For over 60 years, she attended Union Baptist Church; and served on the Mother’s Board, with the Annie L. Wilson Circle, with the East Side Senior Citizens and as an usher. She also participated in the AARP local chapter 195, the Springfield Urban League Guild, and was a past Matron of the Estella Chapter No. 3 Order of the Eastern Star-Prince Hall Affiliation in Springfield, IL. Her unselfish love also extended to the sick and shut-in, Helping Hands, and Contact Ministries--where she provided her famous meals and baked goods.

Helen will be remembered by many. She was preceded in death by Louis D. Curry (spouse); Thomas Medley (father), Emma Mae Medley House (mother), Daniel “Butch” and David Curry (sons), Bessie Alexander, Lula Mae Boswell, Helen Jean Wilburn, Essie L. House, Mollie Pickens (sisters) Joseph, John, Eugene Medley and Jessie House (brothers).

She is survived by her children, Dennis J. Curry, Brenda J. (husband Russell) Moore, Sue E. (husband David) Gayton, Dwayne S. (spouse Cassandra) Curry; David and Preston House (brothers), Dollie Thomas (sister), 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 28 nieces, 26 nephews, 20 great-nephews, 25 great-nieces, numerous cousins and a multitude of friends.
