Even the greater community was touched by Helen. She retired from St. John’s Hospital as a nurse technician after 35 years. For over 60 years, she attended Union Baptist Church; and served on the Mother’s Board, with the Annie L. Wilson Circle, with the East Side Senior Citizens and as an usher. She also participated in the AARP local chapter 195, the Springfield Urban League Guild, and was a past Matron of the Estella Chapter No. 3 Order of the Eastern Star-Prince Hall Affiliation in Springfield, IL. Her unselfish love also extended to the sick and shut-in, Helping Hands, and Contact Ministries--where she provided her famous meals and baked goods.
