Samuel Walp Once Farmd on Miner Street; Served as Sexton Many Years
Seized with a heart attack while looking over his Victory Garden with neighbor about 6:30 last night, Samuel A. Walp, 76, died almost instantly at the rear of his home at 22 Miner Street.
Mr. Walp, who was born at Briar Creek, Columbia County, had resided in this city 56 years and until 17 years ago, managed his farm, part of which is now Miner Street. Until last January, Mr. Walp had been sexton at St. John's Lutheran Church, of which he also was a member.
On his 76th birthday on March 3, Mr. Walp was honored by the Men's Brotherhood of the church at dinner in the church parlors.
Mr. Walp's body will lie in state from 11 a. m. to 8 p. m. on Friday, at which time the funeral will be held. Rev. Francis Edwards will officiate, and interment will be in Hollenback Cemetery.
Surviving Mr. Walp are three children: Ralph, Kingston; Andrew, Metuchen, N. J.; Charles, Alexandria, Va.; Elmer, at home. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
