James Harold Mixon, Sr.
James Harold Mixon Sr., 86, formerly of Perry, died Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville. Family will greet friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM on Friday, December 26, 2014, at Rooks Funeral Home, 213 West Church Street in Fort Valley. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 2:30PM in Oaklawn Cemetery, 720 S. Camellia Blvd. in Fort Valley, with Rev. Ken Bennett officiating.
Born in Gordon to the late Thomas Frank Mixon, Sr. and Ila Eudell Bloodworth Mixon, Mr. Mixon was retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base and served in the Navy during World War II. A former member of First Baptist Church of Perry, he was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Statham.
A true gentleman that loved and cared for his family dearly, memories of him will forever be cherished by his wife of 63 years, Doris Young Mixon; their children, Hal Mixon (Susan) of Statham, and Kathy Bauer (Steve) of Panama City, Florida; grandchildren, Jeremy Mixon of Statham, Michael Bauer and Anna Bauer, both of Panama City, Florida; and a sister, Effie Getz of North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Rooks Funeral Home in Fort Valley is in charge of arrangements.
