He was born July 16, 1937, at Trumann, Arkansas, the son of Alvin Ray Cooper and Maggie Jewell Pruett Cooper.
Billy was a farmer the majority of his life. He was a 1956 graduate of Harrisburg High School and a member of the Greenfield Baptist Church. He was very active in his community, having served as a Poinsett County Justice of the Peace, a constable for the Greenfield Township, a former member of the Harrisburg Jaycees and the Harrisburg Lion's Club.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of the Harrisburg Veterans of Foreign Wars; he was former commander of Post 14 American Legion in Harrisburg.
He married Sue Carole Wilson on July 27, 1958, and they enjoyed 56 years together before her death Oct. 13, 2014.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sherri; and a grandson, Gatlin.
He is survived by three sons, Perry Cooper of Fairfield Bay, Wilson Cooper of Greenfield and Micky Todd Cooper of Harrisburg; three brothers, Larry Cooper (Shirley) and Gary Cooper (Bobbie), all of Jonesboro, and Mike Cooper (Becky) of Harrison; three sisters, Anna Sue Pankey of Memphis, Joan Gasman (Bill) of Joshua Tree, Calif., and Brenda Motz of Southaven, Miss.; five grand-children, Tyler Cooper, Trevor Cooper, Victoria Cooper, Heather Cooper and Malory Cooper; and two great-grand-children, Eakin Williams and Bentley Luther.
Funeral services were in Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.
