Polish poet of Jewish descent. He was one of the co-founders of the Skamander group of experimental poets along with Antoni Słonimski and Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz. Later he became known for his important contribution to Polish children's literature. He is also did translations of Pushkin and other Russian poets. He received a prestigious Golden Laurel of the Polish Academy of Literature in 1935.
