WISCASSET — Barbara Ann Gordon, 63, went to heaven to join her parents on Wednesday, Dec., 17, 2014. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by family after enduring a long illness.
She was born in Apollo, PA on Dec. 24, 1950, a daughter of Sam and Beatrice Mangiaficio. She graduated from Apollo Area Joint High School in 1968 and then Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing in 1971. She further enhanced her postsecondary education at the University of Maine in Farmington, and also the University of New England finishing in 1990. Additionally, she volunteered for the American Cancer Society for many years.
Barbara married the love of her life, Dennis H. Gordon, on Jan. 27, 1973. She then moved to Maine to start a family and her career in nursing working at various hospitals throughout her career. She was a devoted Catholic and was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. She had a passion for sewing and counter cross stitching as well as reading.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, Dennis H. Gordon; two sons, Michael and his wife Rita, and Matthew and his wife Mary, all from Wiscasset. Two sisters: Carol and her husband Wayne from Florida, and Sue and her husband Brad from Pennsylvania. Also several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the team from Miles Home Health and Hospice for their outstanding and professional care during Barb’s final months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Miles Hospital League, 40 Belvedere Road, Damariscotta, ME 04543.
