Mebane Melvin Junior “Shorty” Massey, 84, of Mebane died Monday, December 8 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Orange County, Retired from Pilot Freight Lines and a member of Eastside Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife in their motor home, lawn mower and tractor rebuilding, yard work and gardening, meeting fellow retirees at McDonalds and golf trips, fishing and playing cards with his brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.B. & Roxie Eastwood Massey; wife, Melba Josephine Wright Massey; an infant daughter; son Ronald Melvin Massey and brother, Sgt. Robert Bratcher Massey. He is survived by his Daughter; Michele Ashe and husband Mike of Hope Mills; grandchildren, Brittany Ashe of Hope Mills and Skylar Ashe and wife Kelly of Hope Mills; brothers, John R. Massey of Georgia, James C. Massey and wife Peggy of Mebane, Bernice C. Massey and wife Sue of Burlington, Frank D. Massey and Mary of Graham and David N. Massey of Mebane; sisters, Beatrice Cook of Hawfields, Lou Ella Blair of Mebane, Mary “Beckie” Mitchell of Haw River, Alice Allen of Mebane and Jean Massey of Graham.; sister in law Mildred Dail and brother in law W.C. Dawkins; special relatives and friends, Lucinda Sykes, Billy & Catherine Sykes, Larry and Linda Wright and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery by Pastor Chuck Perkins and Pastor Chip Sellew.
