Joseph "Joe" Ritchie, 87, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church, LCMS in Le Mars. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hinton, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be after 5:00 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, followed by a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Friday evening at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Saturday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars. Memorials can be directed to the Plymouth County Museum.

Joseph Harold Ritchie was born February 12, 1927 on a farm near Le Mars, Iowa to Homer and Magdalena (Hettwer) Ritchie. The family later purchased a farm in Union Township. Joe attended school in Union Township and graduated from Union Consolidated High School in 1944. Joe was united in marriage to Wilma Maass on November 25, 1947 at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen. Joe and Wilma farmed and raised livestock in Union Township until retiring and moving to Le Mars in 2003. Joe had also sold seed corn to many area farmers for several years. He had served as a Trustee for Union Township; along with serving on the Plymouth County Zoning Board and the Plymouth County Museum.

Joe and Wilma had been a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton, Iowa for many years. While attending Trinity, Joe had served as Sunday School Superintendent as well as served on the Finance Committee. Joe and Wilma enjoyed the many fellowship offerings while attending Trinity. Upon moving to Le Mars, the couple joined Grace Lutheran Church. Joe enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends. In earlier years, Joe enjoyed the local CB radio club. His greatest joy in life was his family and later all of the grand and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his children: Jerry Ritchie and his wife Gloria of North Liberty, Iowa, Donna Mowry and her husband LeRoy of Miami, MO, Janice Fix and her husband Ed of Beavercreek, OH, and Sharon Pratt and her husband Al of Le Mars; eight grandchildren: Denise Calef, Jennifer Land, Tina Mowry, Jean Lake, Andrew Fix, Alison Pratt, Laura Nicholson, and Emily Fix; seven great grandchildren: Abbey Land , Karley Land, Jamie Calef, Jason Calef, Ethan Nicholson, Emma Nicholson, and Haley Nicholson; and several nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death his parents, Homer and Magdalena (Hettwer) Ritchie; a son, Jim Ritchie; a sister, Eunice Hayden; and a granddaughter, Jill Mowry.
