There are two family renditions of her death and I am not sure which is the true fact.

One is:
She had picked up a road flare and was playing with it when the flare set her dress on fire and she died at the hospital later of the burns.

The second:
She was playing near a smudge pot used to light the country road, got to close, her dress caught fire and she ran. By the time her mother Lulu caught her and extinguished the fire she was badly burned. She was transported to the hospital but was so severely burned she did not survive.
