Son of William (or John) Donnelly and Ellen Gilbert (or McKey), both immigrants from Ireland

In 1880 he lived in Colebrook, New Hampshire as a farm laborer with the family of Asa Noyes.

He married Gertrude Florence Avery on 25 Jun 1890 in Malden, Middlesex, Massachusetts. Their marriage record calls him a clerk. They had a child:

In 1920 and 1930 he lived in Keene with wife and daughter. In 1920 he was the owner of a glass manufactory. In 1930 he was the owner of an ice cream shop.

In 1940 he was unemployed. He lived with his wife, their married daughter Marion Johnson, her husband and son, and a lodger.

He died of a wasting disease (cachexia) at the age of 78.
