Fourth of fifteen children born to Henry Kivett and Sarah Sally Vestal.

Teacher, Post Master, Railway Conductor, Mayor, Hotel Operator, Cotton Agent, Turpentine Distiller, County Recorder, Lumber Mill Operator, Building Material Supplier, and North Carolina contractor. Built County Courthouses, bridges, churches, schools, Masonic Halls and residences. He generally moved to where the work was located. He raised his family as Baptists and invested in education for both his sons and daughters. He built churches for Episcopal, Presbyterian, Methodist and other denominations. His children's industrious careers are a reflection of his investment in them.

Mr. and Mrs. Kivett had a large family of children, twelve in all, born to them, and five that survived both parents.
