Rebecca was born in Clay County, Missouri in 1923. Her parents were Josiah Brown from Tennessee and Mary "Polly" Richardson from Kentucky. They had 10 children with Rebecca being the 7th child. There is no record of her middle name or of her exact birth date.

She married John Culberson McCracken in Clinton, Missouri July 30, 1837.

She and John had eight children, two who died in infancy.

After John's death in 1870, she married:

John Alexander Brinkman from Pennsylvania in 1870 at Sonoma County, California.

John L. Hart from Tennessee in 1876 at Mendocino County, California.

Pleasant Henry Compton from Georgia in 1879 at Mendocino County, California.

Capt Levi Felton from Pennsylvania in 1883 at Little Lake, Mendocino, California.
