Ralph A. Starman, 77, of Grand Island died Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at the Grand Island Veterans Home, with his family at his side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Todd K. Philipsen will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery, with military honors rendered by the United Veterans Honor Guard and Nebraska National Honor Guard. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.
Mr. Starman was born June 23, 1937, at Raeville, the son of Henry and Mary (Oberbroeckling) Starman.
Survivors are his children and their spouses, Debra Brokenrope of Aurora, Ronald and Deena Starman of Grand Island, Angela and Doug Woodward of Grand Island, Roger and Tonya Starman of Grand Island, Randy and Julie Starman of Doniphan and Julie Kleint and her friend, Barry McGooden, of Grand Island; brothers, Raymond, Jerome, Sylvester and Henry; sister, Mary Margaret Starman; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leonard, Wilfred, Vincent and LaVerne; sister, Mildred Henke; and son-in-law, Godfrey Brokenrope.
Ralph was raised in the Raeville area, graduating from St. Bonaventure at Raeville.
He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961. In 1964, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Latzel. Ralph was employed by Green Bear Frame and Axel for over 32 years.
Memberships include Blessed Sacrament Parish, Dannebrog American Legion and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Some of his enjoyments included bowling, hunting, playing pitch and Saturday afternoons socializing with family and friends at a place with the “coldest beer.”
