Don (Shorty) Vernon Warren son of Orville & Blanche (Tracy) Warren was born on September 4, 1930 in St. John, Missouri and passed away at Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center in Chariton, Iowa on December 8, 2014 at the age of 84.


Shorty spent his childhood between northern Missouri and southern Iowa. Shorty served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War, After returning from Korea, he married Erma Reed on August 9, 1952. To this union four children were born; Donna, Richard, Dixie, and Tracy.


Shorty raised his family on a farm west of Sewal. Along with farming he sold Archer Oil and drove a semi-truck for many years. Later in life after being widowed, he married Connie Howell and moved to Allerton, Iowa. Where he worked for Wayne County on a rural garbage route and was a night marshal for the city of Allerton.


Shorty's love of country led him to be a 60 year member of the American Legion. Shorty spent many memorial days with the Allerton Legion performing military honors at local cemeteries.


Shorty enjoyed traveling to Branson, Missouri and Mt. Home, Arkansas. If Shorty could have convinced someone to move there with him, he would have been gone. In his spare time he loved driving the country side, listening to coun try music and telling jokes to everyone he met. Shorty enjoyed spending time with family but it was his granddaughters that brought a smile to his face.


Shorty was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Erma, five brothers Kermit, Junior, Tracy, Harold, and Rex. Four sisters Olivia, Florence, Margaret, and Christine and their spouses, brother-in-law Jim Reed.


He is survived by his children Donna (Carroll) McB-room of Waukee, Iowa, Richard Warren of Boise, Idaho, Dixie (Donnie) Ahrenkiel of Sewal, Iowa and Tracy (Jennifer) Warren of Ft.

Lewis, Washington. His four granddaughters Jessica (Lan-don) Greene of Boundarant, Iowa, Sherrie (Jake) Coco of Omaha, Nebraska, Jodi (Tad) Ogden of Cordon, Iowa, and Shelby Warren of Des Moines, Iowa and two great granddaughters Scotlyn Greene and Murciela Coco and great grandson Jake Ogden. Brother Garold Lee (Marilyn) Warren, Sister Mildred Megonigle, and sister-in-law Sandy Reed. As well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.


Funeral services were held Friday, December 12th at Randolph Funeral Home, Allerton with Pastor Ross Blount officiating.

Musical selections were

"Mocking Bird Hill", "When I Get Where I'm Going" and "Wings of a Dove"

Bearers were Donnie Ahrenkiel, Carroll McBroom, Landon Greene, Tad Ogden, Fred Reed and Tracy Warren.

Honor bearers were Bob Gill, Dean Kenney, Lyle Warren and Richard Warren.

Interment was in Shriver Cemetery.

Military rites were conducted by McClaughlin/Halfhill American Legion Post #379, Allerton, Iowa.
