Virginia Watts Wray
November 25, 1936 - December 14, 2014

Virginia Watts Wray peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 with her children by her side. Virginia was born November 25, 1936 in Laurel, Mississippi, to Thomas Lyon Watts and Dorothy Morrow Watts. Virginia's family moved to Waycross, Georgia shortly after her birth and she remained there until her high school graduation. After high school, Virginia moved to Milledgeville, Georgia to attend Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College and State University). Virginia met Jimmy Jackson Wray, of Milledgeville, while attending college; they married and had five children. She continued her education, receiving a Masters Degree in Childhood Education. She taught kindergarten for over thirty years in Milledgeville, loving each and every child in her care. She often had the opportunity to teach children of her former students. Virginia was the oldest of four children. She is predeceased by her parents, brother Thomas Lyon Watts, Jr. and son Richard Lyon "Chard" Wray.

She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and remained actively involved in the Coastal Georgia Alpha Delta Pi Alumnae Association. Virginia served as sorority chapter advisor at Georgia College for many years. She was a member of the Milledgeville Town Committee of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, and a long time member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Milledgeville, Georgia.

She is survived by her children Jackson Mell Wray, Lisa Wray Anderson (Richard), Sarah Virginia "Ginny" Wray of St. Simons Island, Georgia, and Hammond Keith Wray of Milledgeville, Georgia, Virginia's last ten years were spent enjoying her four grandsons, John Wesley "Jack" Anderson, Richard Davenport Wray, Robert Colin Mell Wray and James Jeptha Wray, all of St. Simons Island, Georgia. She is also survived by her former husband, Jimmy Jackson "Jack" Wray of Macon, Georgia, sister Dorothy Watts Mills of Zachary, Louisiana, brother Richard Morrow Watts of Gainesville, Florida, sister in law Sara Watts of Columbia, South Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and interment will be held at Christ Church, Frederica, St. Simons Island, Georgia on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow in the Parish House.

The family suggests that remembrances be made to the Chard Wray Food Pantry, 472 Broad Street, Milledgeville, Georgia 31061.
