Bruce served as a Sergeant and Gunner on B-24H #42-64446, 721st Bomber Squadron, 450th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Cumberland County, Maine prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on January 29, 1943 in Portland, Maine. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a welder and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24H #42-64446 took off, with a crew of 10, from Manduria, Italy on a bombing mission over the Aero-Engine works near Steyr, Austria. 10 minutes before the target approximately 75 German Fighter's attacked the squadron. B-24H #42-64446 was hit and fire was seen coming from the fuselage and the waste window. They were also seen crashing in Austria.

Bruce was "Killed In Action in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
