John Harmon Gillmore, age 85, of Johnstown, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Wells Nursing Home, Johnstown, N.Y.

He was born on July 23, 1928 in Johnstown, a son of the late Bernard J. Gillmore and Malvina P. Saxton Gillmore.

Mr. Gillmore was a Class of 1946 graduate of Johnstown High and attended Wagner College in Staten Island. He worked for many years at the family businesses as Executive Vice President of Gillmore Oil Company and President of Johnstown Auto Parts before retirement. Mr. Gillmore was a member of St. Patrick’s Lodge #4, F. & A.M.

John is survived by Cynthia Brown Gillmore whom he married on May 27, 1950; three daughters Candace G. Thompson of Gloversville, Karen G. (Glenn) Sackett of North Carolina, Kathryn G. (Jay) Smigen of Niskayuna; six grandchildren Brandon P. Thompson of North Carolina, Shannon K. Smigen of New York City, Sara E. Smigen of Niskayuna, Dr. Hillary M. Sackett of Vermont, Hannah Leigh Sackett (Charles) Wiley and Heather R. Sackett, both of North Carolina and one great grandchild Felicity R. Thompson of North Carolina.

Mr. Gillmore was predeceased by one brother William Ernest Gillmore in April of 2010 and one sister Betty Gillmore.

Interment will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
