Herman N. (Bing) Anderson was born in Alexandria, Minnesota, on April 17, 1920, the son of Alex and Anna (Larson) Anderson. He attended schools in Alexandria and entered the CC's before going to work for the Coca Cola Company in Alexandria. On August 27, 1941, Herman was united in marriage to Sally Peart in Alexandria. He enlisted in the National Guard and was called into the active service as an anti-aircraft gunner in 1941. Being served in Iceland, England, and Belgium before being Honorably Discharged in 1945. He held several jobs including working at Coca Cola, Anderson Florist, Minneapolis Star and Tribune, and Land O' Lakes, before becoming a letter carrier and working there for the last 15 years of his life. Bing loved to camp and was very creative. He also liked to amuse children as he was active as a Parade Clown and served as Santa Claus many times. He died on December 7, 1983, at the age of 63 years.
Bing is survived by his wife Sally Anderson of Alexandria; sons: Neil Anderson of Maple Grove; Bradley Anderson of Tonopah, Nevada; Craig Anderson of Alexandria; Tim Anderson of San Diego, California; daughters: Devona (Mrs. Dallas) Flynn of Detroit Lakes; Sister Carol Anderson of New York City; brothers: Ernest Anderson of Manchester, TN; Ardyce Anderson of Alexandria; Clifford Anderson of Tulsa, OK; Lyle Anderson of Tucson, AX; Alex Anderson, Jr. of Sauk Centre; sisters: Edith Olson of Great Falls, MT and Edna Farmer of Longmont, CO. also surviving are 12 grandchildren. Bing was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Mary's Catholic Church, alexandria, Minnesota on December 10, 1983 with Rev. Alexander Ludwig officiating. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Alexandria, Minnesota. Pallbearers were Jack Peterson, Vince Fiala, Bill Platto, Butch Motzko, Doug Weatherhead and Bill Beery. Honorary pallbearers were David Masteller, Dennis Masteller, Elroy Froemming, Stan Anderson, Karl Glade, Tom Rensink and Glenn Van Amber.
