Lawyer war pilot and Assemblyman from the 10th district in Manhattan. In 1916 he served with the 69th Regiment at the Mexican border briefly before reporting to Cambridge for air training. He continued training in Foggia Italy under Captain Fiorello LaGuardia. He saw service at the front and had some narrow escapes, including being shot down by an enemy ship near the American lines, rescued unharmed and informed that peace had just been declared. In 1922 he was elected to the Assembly from the 10th district (serving with fellow freshman Jams A. Farley). In 1923 he was admitted to the bar and 2 years later appointed to the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel, a post he held until 1934, when he rresumed law practice. He was married to Agnes (Higgins) and left behind three young daughters: Margaret, Mary and Agnes.
