s/o Adrian Swanton and Margaret Dundus. Was married to Pauline Marie Nelson (1923-1999) and they had three children, Donald DuWayne and Darlene. He married Dorothy Vina DeVary in 1966. Dorothy's fist husband, Lewis DeVary, was a first cousin of Pauline Nelson.

WWII: S/SGT Donald Dundas Swanton, 366284188, Born: 3 May 1921, Beaverton, Michigan, Son of Adrian Young Swanton and Margaret M Dundas, Enlisted: 7 Mar 1939, Discharged: 18 Jun 1945, Married: Pauline Marie Nelson, Married: 1966, Dorothy Vina DeVary, Died: 20 Sep 1979, Buried: Flint Memorial Cemetery, Genesee County, Michigan.

SGT. DONALD Swanton, son of Mrs. W. O. Raymond, of Beaverton, was recently sent overseas to Ireland with a U. S. Expeditionary force. Donald enlisted in the army in 1939. GCR 3/18/1942

Staff Sergeant Donald B. Swanton - son of Mr. & Mrs. W. O. Raymond, formerly of Beaverton, who now lives in Flint. Donald who has been in Iceland and England for the past 20 months, is now stationed somewhere in Ireland. GCR 12/22/1943

S/Sgt Donald D Swanton (above) son of Mr and Mrs W O Raymond, is now stationed in Ireland. His brother Cpl Harlan W Raymond, who is in North Africa is still confined in a hospital there. GCR 3/29/1944

SGT. DONALD SWANTON, former Gladwin county boy and son of Mrs. W. O. Raymond of Flint, was the subject of a special article in a recent issue of The Detroit News by one of their staff correspondents who is with the Third U. S. Army in France. The article says in part: "The Army is so busy that it hasn't gotten around to giving medals to all its heroes but the officers are talking about these men of bravery. 'A, lieutenant spent an hour today telling us about Staff Sergeant Donald D. Swanton. Sgt. Swanton was with a group of six Yanks bringing two much needed trucks up to the front. As they neared the front they ran into a Nazi machinegun in the road trying to stop our supplies. The truck driver ran right over the machinegun, though it was firing at them. The truck killed the Nazi gunner' and destroyed the machinegun. "Then the trucks ran into eight German armored cars and 100 Jerries who had sneaked out of a wood. Our outnumbered Yanks fought it out. Sgt. Swanton killed one German with his rifle. He shot another Jerry out of a turret. Then our trucks stepped on the gas, our men firing all the time, and detoured around the Germans. Our trucks got back with the supplies!" GCR 9/27/1944

S/Sgt. Donald D. Swanton, son of Wesley Raymond, formerly of Tobacco township, received his honorable discharge on June 20 with 115 points to his credit. He was awarded the Bronze Star, having participated in six major battles. S/Sgt. Swanton had served in the Army for the past seven years, having been overseas for three and a half years. He will spend some time with his father in Flint. GCR 7/4/1945
