Sheila Lenora Griddine Clark was born on March 7, 1958, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Samuel and Margaret Griddine. She was the third child of eight born to her parents. Her oldest brother, Samuel T. Griddine, Jr., preceded her in death. As a child, Sheila loved playing with makeup, dolls, hats and purses. She also loved to go roller skating with anyone in the neighborhood who could really skate. At home Sheila enjoyed playing board games for hours and could beat the best of them because she was so quiet and would never reveal her plans.
Sheila grew up attending Calvary Temple Church in the Northeast area of Kansas City, MO with her family. There she was involved in a very exciting church and youth group. She attended many youth functions and especially liked the Easter Pageants at Budd Park and the family boat rides at Lake Jacomo. In her early years of Sunday School Sheila made a public confession of faith in Christ and often talked about how much she enjoyed being taught directly from the Bible.
In 1976 Sheila graduated from Lincoln High School in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1979 she married the one love of her life, Larry Clark.
Through their union two sons were born: Kendale Clark and Mario Clark. Sheila also shared in the parenting of Larry’s two older sons: Larry Clark, Jr. and Neil Clark. Right from the start, these little boys became the apple of her eye. All four boys were the total joy of her heart and she gave them all she had.
Sheila had several jobs in her life and enjoyed a variety of fields. One of her favorite jobs was working as a secretary receptionist for Waddell and Reed in downtown Kansas City. She loved dressing up and greeting people as they entered the firm.
Sheila’s final ten years were defined by her illness. Seeking further peace in her life, she rededicated her life to Christ at Memorial Missionary Baptist Church in 2004. Because her health continued to decline, she was unable to really be involved, but joyfully attended when she was physically able.
For the most part, Sheila was the most reserved of her seven siblings. She was also the most loyal and devoted to those whom she loved. She was a very private person with a quiet spirit and a small circle of close friends. She met her best friend in the whole world as a little girl in grade school. That little friend was fondly named Peaches. When the whole world was too busy for Sheila, Peaches was right there by her side to give her hope. She would stop everything to keep Sheila going during the darkest hours. She was there for every season, every trial and every joy. Their beautiful bond of friendship meant the world to Sheila. In Peaches, Sheila had a true friend who patiently understood her and would love her to the end.
Sheila Lenora Griddine Clark, 56, of Kansas City, Missouri went home to be with her Lord and Savior early in the morning on December 13, 2014. Her long journey of pain ended. No more pain and no more suffering. She was free. She leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life: her parents, Samuel and Margaret Griddine of Kansas city, MO; her husband Larry Clark of Kansas City, MO; two sons Kendale and Mario Clark (Tashia) of Kansas City, MO; two stepsons Neil Clark of Seattle, WA and Larry Clark, Jr. of Kansas City, MO; two granddaughters Kinley McKay and Marley Clark of Kansas City, MO; three brothers Michael Griddine (LaTonya) of Kansas City, MO, Reginald Griddine (Angel) of San Diego, CA and Timothy Griddine of Kansas City, MO; three sisters Jean Davis, LaTonya Boyd (Mercurvus) of Kansas City, MO, Terri Green (Kenny) of Raymore, MO; four sisters in laws Tracie Griddine, Gussie Harris, Jean Walker and Mattie Thomas of Kansas City, MO.
