Charles Robert Waltz, age 86, of Richmond, died Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at Friends Fellowship Community. Born March 8, 1928, in Madison, Indiana, to Ernst G. and Dora Stoops Waltz, Chuck lived most of his life in Richmond. He graduated from Madison High School as Valedictorian; earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University; and earned his master’s degree in education from Purdue University. Chuck was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II. He began teaching at Joseph Moore Elementary School. Chuck was the principal of Highland Elementary School, Crestdale Elementary School, and Highland Heights Elementary. He worked at Richmond Community Schools - Central Office for 20 years as Director of Curriculum, Director of Personnel, and as Assistant Superintendent. Chuck retired in 1990. Chuck was a member and elder of Sylvan Nook Church of Christ, charter member of S.P.U.R, and former member of Kiwanis and Yokefellow Fellowship. Chuck enjoyed fishing, hunting, being outdoors, collecting books, and reading. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Bentley Combs Waltz; children, Robert (Nancy) Waltz of West Lafayette, Indiana, Eric Waltz and Tammy (Mike) Wilmot, both of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Rod (Amy) Waltz of Richmond; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Alice and Edith; two brothers, Loren and Leo; and first wife, of 54 years, Betty E. Richardson Waltz. A celebration of life for Charles Robert Waltz will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2014, at Sylvan Nook Church of Christ, 1221 Sylvan Nook Drive, Richmond, with Michael Ballard officiating. The family will be receiving friends following the celebration. Entombment will be in Earlham Memorial Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
