Leonard was born June 13, 1928, at Brainerd, Minnesota, to Paul and Viola (Monson) Hardy. Greeting him was his sister, Paulyne and later two brothers, Virgil and Roger. He graduated from Whitefish Country School, Pine River High School, and the School of Agriculture at the University of Minnesota. He married Doris A. Stonebreaker in 1949, and six children were born to them, Lenda Ann, Faye Irene, Susan Kay, Glen Leonard, Eddie Wayne, and Annette Jean. Leonard worked on the Garrison Dam until they moved to Adair, Iowa. In 1963, they moved to Bismarck where he worked for Northern Improvement and PRS Products until 1974. In 1971, he married Linda G. Sayler and adopted her two daughters, Lory and Cheryl and a son, Paul was born to them. In 1974 they started 4LS MFG Co and operated it until he retired in 1990. In 1987, he married Delores A Nieuwsma. She had seven children, Rebecca, John, Jilene, Tamara, Paul, Perry, and Angela. After retiring, they spent 20 winters near the Gulf Coast in Texas and in the summer time traveled to most of the states and western half of Canada. Leonard enjoyed camping, hunting, woodworking, and fishing with his family. He was a member of Cornerstone Community Church since 1966, where he was a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, board member, and a Boy Scout leader for several years.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; sister Pauline Marshall; brother Roger Hardy; son Glen Hardy; and daughter Annette Hardy.
