Samuel Levi Shelley, 83, farmer and one of the early settlers of Mountainville, died at the home of his son, Jesse Shelley, Friday of heart disease. Mr. Shelley had been in ill health for several years.

He was born in American Fork, December 2, 1852, a son of William Bowyer and Jane Dunn Shelley, early settlers of Utah county.

The family came to Sanpete county with the early colonizers, and in 1880 Mr. Shelley married Marian Burnside of Mountainville.

With the exception of ten years spent in Charleston, they had resided in Mountainville since.

Mrs. Shelley died in 1927.

Surviving are two daughters and five sons, Bishop William L. Shelley, David A. Shelley, Jesse Shelley and Mrs. Jane Elizabeth Coates, Mountainville; John M. Shelley and Mrs. Helen Coates, Richfield, Idaho, and George H. Shelley, Clear Creek; a brother and a sister, David Shelley and Mrs. Sarah Ann Barratt, American Fork; 43 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
