Greg Douglas Holmes, 53, Higginsville, Mo., passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City.

Greg was born on Feb. 25, 1953, in Springfield, Mo. He had been an assemblyman at the Lafayette County Enterprise Inc. Greg, a resident of the Higginsville Habitation community for more than 35 years, was a very special person who had touched the lives of many with his personal warm greetings. In addition, he was a car enthusiast and avid culinary collector. Greg was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church and was presently attending the First Christian Church, where he loved the music. Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Holmes, in 1994.

He is survived by his father, Lee Holmes of Independence, Mo.; a brother, Jeff Holmes and wife, Tanna, of Leawood, Kan.: a sister, Rev. Lucinda Holmes and husband, Cliff Meek, of Kansas City, Mo.; a nephew, Sterling Holmes of Leawood; and all his caregivers at the Higginsville Habitation Center.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, at the First Christian Church, 16 West 20th St., Higginsville. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Friday at Mount Comfort Cemetery, Springfield, Mo. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence, (816) 373-3600. Contributions are suggested to the Mary Ann Holmes Scholarship Fund, in care of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 2415 R. D. Mize Road, Independence, Mo. 64057.
