Mr Perry Monroe Varn, one of Bamberg's oldest and most respected citizens, died suddenly at his home in the Colston section on Wednesday morning. Mr Varn was 82 years old and served his county during the Confederate war with distinction. He was reared in the community in which he died and was one of the county's most prosperous farmers, retiring several years ago and his sons taking his place. The funeral took place in the family plot on Friday morning due to the fact that many close relatives lived at a long distance.
He is survived by his widow and the following children: William H Varn, Charles M Varn, Jasper B Varn and Mrs Leila Varn McMillan, as well as other close relatives.
