Harold Charles Rauch died Friday morning, Oct 6, 2006, in the comfort of his home at age 82.
Always up to a fishing trip, he left with his Higher Power in search of a well stocked lake, where the fishing is always good, and the view is such that he can watch over all of us at the same time.
He was the grandson of a valley pioneer, the family having arrived here in 1896 from Iowa. His father Lewie Rauch, homesteaded the farm at the 14 mile, right next to his father, John Rauch’s homestead. Harold came home at birth to a cosy soddy where the family lived for many more years before they built the big house.
He attended Mountain Ridge school quitting when he thought he was smart enough and went to work for the Wellstead’s near Parson before joining the Canadian Armed Forces during WWII.
Upon discharge he applied for a VLA land grant and bought the Tom Hawkes farm. It had everything a hunter and fisherman wanted. Poor soil and steep hills, so not much farm to farm, but within easy walking distance of the Columbia River and the mountains that he loved.
Ill health brought Harold’s working years to an early end, and when he should have given up he heard about a new place to fish, and he began walking an extra step each day until soon he was able to enjoy this extra time he had with wife Helen, his 12 children, their children and his many friends.
He loved to hunt and fish, play crib, play online games on his computer, and knit.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 30 years Helen, his children,
Colleen, Crystal, Ed, Pam, Darcy, Loray, Jim, Blane, Roxy, Kelly, Shawna and Lana, their spouses and children, his sister Shirley(Bill), and other family too numerous to mention.
