According to page 647, Volume 1, Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia 1861-1865, Lt. Foster was wounded at Battle of Chickamauga on September 19, 1863, (battle occured Sept. 19th and 20th rather than Nov. 19th on tombstone).
He died from that wound on October 5, 1863.
He first enlisted in 5th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry on May 11, 1861, and transferred to Company A, 17th Battalion, Alabama Sharpshooters in 1862.
