Jay Ellis Ruttman was born January 13, 1934 in Mooreland, Oklahoma; he was the son of George Franklin and Hattie Gertrude (Peach) Ruttman. He grew up in Mooreland and attended Quinlan schools and graduated from Mooreland High School. Jay owned the Mooreland Café for many years before his retirement in the late 1990's.
Jay was in the Untied States Air Force from March 19, 1953 until August of 1966 where he achieved the rank of Staff Sgt. He received the Merit of Service in 1964, the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Medal.
Jay loved OU Football and enjoyed going to the OU football games with good friends and family. He also enjoyed family gatherings and playing cards.
Jay was a member and Deacon in the First Christian Church in Mooreland. Jay loved his church.
Jay is survived by his sisters, Ruth Blumer and husband Ray of Shallowater, Texas; Venita Slay and husband JR of Woodward; Susie Kline and husband Scott of Woodward; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
