Mr. Carpenter was the beloved mailman for the residents of Cherokee Heights. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1992 after thirty two years of service. After his retirement he worked another twenty one years for Lee Hardware and Building Supply. He was an active member of Waycross First Assembly of God where he and his wife attended the Young in Spirit Senior Group. Mr. Carpenter had an infectious personality. He always had a smile on his face and a positive outlook on life. He loved people and enjoyed the interaction he had with them for so many years delivering their mail. He was always willing to help his fellow man in anyway that he could. Mr. Carpenter was an avid fisherman and at one time coached school sports at Waresboro Elementary School. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Tom Wilson, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Iris G. Carpenter of Waycross, two sons, Frederick E. Carpenter, Jr., and his wife Diane of Waycross, Chris Carpenter of Blackshear, a step-son, Allan Vrboncic and his wife Johanna of Valdosta, two step-daughters, Susan Vrboncic of Waycross, Jeanie Vrboncic of Valdosta, three granddaughters, Jessica Perritt of Waycross, Brittany Cady and her husband Matthew of Waycross, Amber Carpenter of Blackshear, four great grandchildren, Carli Annalise Cady, Kacie Ann Perritt, Joshua Donner, Kaylee Grace Carpenter, a brother, Robert Carpenter and his wife Vera of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, two sisters, Ann Wilson of Millerstown, Pennsylvania, Sue Blizzard and her husband Frank of New Cumberland, Pennsylvania and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at Waycross First Assembly. Burial will follow in High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m., at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
