Alfred P. Stoecklein, 76, died June 16, 1998 at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City. He was born March 3, 1922 at Bazine, the son of Anton and Rosa Ruder Stoecklein.

A Finney County resident since 1948, he worked for Herbert Clutter, Holcomb, for a number of years and then worked for the Garden City Co-Op for 23 years. He served in the US Army during World War II.

On May 25, 1948 he married Geraldine Meier at Garden City. She survives.

Other survivors include four sons, Rodney, Terry and Tracy, all of Garden City, Alan of Hutchinson; a daughter, Sandra Stoecklein of Garden City; five brothers, Robert of Victoria, Elmer of Hays, Harold and Leroy, both of Ness City, Richard of Olathe; two sisters, Mortina of Ness City, Eleanor of Hays; six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Vigil service will be at 8 p.m. today with a rosary to follow at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, both at the church, with Father James E. Baker presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
