Murlene VanHowten Land Duncan, born in Magnolia, Texas, and a resident of Berwick, passed away in her sleep Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at the residence of her daughter, Georgia Kay Tanner, in Berwick, at the age of 83.
Murlene was a mother, grandma, great-grandma, great-great-grandma and great-great-great-grandma. She loved all of her grandkids ranging in ages from weeks to 40-plus years of age. She loved to play pool, travel and play Scrabble.
Murlene is survived by two daughters, Lillie Higginbotham of Houston, Texas, and Georgia Tanner of Berwick; two sons, Emmett Alvin Land, of Houston, and Allen Ray Land and wife, Uli, also of Houston.
She was very grateful to have Shelby and Russell Barrilleaux; Kenneth, Christi and Rory Strother; Melissa and Ed Burke, Milton III and Mason Barrilleaux; and Nina Marie, Kimber and Heath Jr. to help make her last year enjoyable.
Murlene is preceded in death by her parents, Katy and Ruben VanHouten; her son, Ricky Dene Land; twin daughters, Lois and Joyce; and all of her brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at Miller Funeral Home in Houston, from 11 a.m. until services at noon. Mrs. Duncan will be laid to rest in the Field Store Cemetery in Waller, Texas.
