GEORGE ‘BUTCH’ BERYL CLOVER
George Beryl Clover was called home to be with the Lord on December 14, 2014. He was born February 20, 1944 to Mildred Jones Mitchell and Beryl Edwin Clover in Huntsville, Alabama where Beryl was stationed in the army and Mildred was an RN. They came back to Mio when George was two years old to Beryl’s parents’ home on Zimowske Rd.
They moved to Owosso when George was in junior high, and he graduated high school there. He belonged to the FFA and was in the golden gloves championship in boxing. They frequented coming home to Mio, though; keeping their home they built on Zimowske Rd.
George married Verna Lou Eastman June 8, 1963 in Mio and resided here shortly after.
They have two daughters, Lori Ann Clover (Mike Gambrel) of Luzerne and Jodi (Larry) Leaf of Mio. Four grandchildren; Rebecca Harmon of Mio, James Harmon of Petoskey, Samantha Brown of Luzerne, and Jessica (Jerry) Schullar of Mio. Six great-grandchildren: Jazmine, Willow, and Dirke Ewald of Luzerne and Lilly, Sierra, and Phoenix Schullar of Mio.
George worked as a welder, construction worker, lineman with General Telephone Company, worked in the woods cutting pulpwood at times, and sawed lumber. He also farmed a bit throughout, and volunteered for the Luzerne Fire Dept. for a few years in the 70’s. One particular fire he fought was the one at Wagner Lake.
He enjoyed playing guitar and getting together with friends and family. Country, Gospel, and Blue Grass music were his favorites. Playing euchre was another favorite pastime with friends and having coffee. George loved history and family history alike. He would go exploring frequently.
He is survived by: a sister, Juanita (Gary) Huff of Owosso, Melvin (Elaine) Clover of Bancroft, James ‘Skeeter’ Clover and William ‘Bill’ Clover of Owosso. An aunt, Geneva (Clover) Kellogg of Owosso also survives him, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
An infant son and his parents preceded him in death.
A graveside service was held December 16, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Luzerne Cemetery with Andy Wallace Officiating.
