J.M. MOODY DIES SATURDAY; LONG ILLNESS

Joseph M. Moody, a prominent farmer and livestock raiser of this region died at his home in Deseret at the age of 71 Saturday evening following a lingering illness. He was born in St. George, Utah, Dec. 17, 1866, a son of William C. and Eliza Bess Moody and came to Deseret at the age of fifteen where he had since resided. He is survived by his widow Effie Reed Moody whom he married in Manti in 1890, one son Ray C. Moody, Salt Lake City, two daughters, Mrs. Vernell M. Thatcher of Salt Lake and Norma Moody of Deseret, four sisters, Mrs. J.C. Hawley of Oasis, Mrs. Ann Clawson and Luella Bess of Granger and Mrs. Helen Hinckley of Salt Lake, five brothers, Juel Moody of Hinckley, Warren Moody of Deseret, Fawn and George Moody of Los Angeles and William Moody of Berkeley, Cal. and three grandsons.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday in the Deseret Ward Chapel under the direction of Bishop Ralph Crafts. Speakers were N.D. Thatcher, Sr., B.P. Crafts, George Boyack, and E. J. Eliason. Vocal numbers were furnished by Mrs. Fenton Gardner, G.M. Wright and the Delta male quartet, a violin solo by Mrs. Hannifin accompanied by Mrs. Spencer Wright. Benediction was pronounced by N.C.S. Peterson. Interment took place in the City Cemetery in Salt Lake following brief services on Wednesday. Mr. Moody was highly respected and his life exemplary. Many mourn his passing and the sympathy of all is extended to the sorrowing family.
