Wink Davis, Sr., 90 Tech Football Star Church leader family man, business man. Wingfield Austin Davis, was a man of many abilities and he shared them generously. Mr. Davis died suddenly Sunday, April 1, following a cerebral hemorrhage. He was Founder and Chairman of the Board of The Wink Davis Equipment Co., INC. in Atlanta. He was a Life Elder and long time member of North Avenue Presbyterian Church. Mr. Davis graduated from Georgia Tech in 1934. He played football for Georgia Tech from 1931-1933 as a halfback, scoring the only and game-winning touchdown against an otherwise undefeated Duke football team of 1933. He was inducted into the Georgia Tech Football Hall of Fame. Mr. Davis was also a member of ANAK & ODK, Honorary, Society and the Phi Delta Theta social fraternity. Mr. Davis was a veteran of WWII serving as a Major in the U S. Army Aircore. He had a lifelong committment to the North Avenue Presbyterian Church. Mr. Davis said ""I feel like the Lord has blessed me in more ways than one."" He and his deceased wife, Winnie, were instrumental in establishing the North Avenue Presbyterian Church World Mission Conference, a tradition that has been carried on for more than forty years. In addition, he maintained a strong interest in the mission field, and was responsible for the support of numerous missionaries. He was a teacher and mentor to the college class at North Avenue. An annual outing at his Lake Lanier home became a high point of their church year. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Atlanta Roadary, where he was actively involved for more than fifty years. His sons said, ""our dad followed the christain golden rule in every business dealing, treating each customer honestly and fairly."" He is survived by his wife, Martine Joyner Davis; two sons, Wink Davis, Jr.(Helen) Alex Davis and Daphne Atlanta; and daughter Marty Mitchell (Tom) of Flagler Beach, FL; brother Ellis Davis Tallahasee FL. He was the grandfather of 10 and the great-grandfather of 15. Visitation Tuesday, April 3, from 6-9 p.m. at the Spring Hill Chapel. A celebration of his life will be held at North Avenue Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, April 4, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Scott Weimer officiating. Interment will be in Arlington Memorial Park. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The elders of North Avenue Presbyterian Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
