Dorothy Dix Green, 94, died Sunday, April 16, 2006, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Elayne and Gale Fife in St. George, Utah. She was born at home on Oct. 24, 1911, in Cedar City, Utah, to Elizabeth Ellen "Nellie" and David Dix, the fifth of 12 children.

Dorothy and DeVon Pryor Green were married Nov. 21, 1931, in Parowan, Utah. They lived in Cedar City until the early 1950s, and then spent the next decade traveling the Western states while DeVon worked construction jobs. They settled in Farmington in 1960, where Dorothy lived until July 2005, when she moved to St. George to live with the Fifes.

Dorothy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Does in which she held local and state offices.

However, most of Dorothy's time and energy was spent on her large family.

During their retirement years, she and DeVon traveled for months at a time visiting her brothers, sisters and children who were scattered across the country. She always attended family reunions and kept in close touch with relatives by being a dedicated card and letter writer.

Her family will remember her for her abundant generosity, her constant, loving presence and her willful and fiery spirit.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, DeVon Green; six sisters, four brothers, one granddaughter, one great-grandson, and two great-great-grandsons.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Gunnels of Farmington, Shirley Middleton of Globe, Ariz., and Elayne Fife and husband, Gale, of St. George; sister, Louise Golberg and husband, Tom, of Woodland Hills, Calif.; brothers- in-law, Court Nelson of Las Vegas, Nev., and Corry Olsen of Henderson, Nev.; sister-in-law, Jane Dix of Riverside, Calif., nine grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 20, at the Old Rock Church in Cedar City, Utah. The funeral will follow at 12:30 p.m. Dorothy will be interred at the Cedar City cemetery beside DeVon.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Rocky Mountain Care of St. George, and especially the two angels, Lacey and Jessica, for their loving care of Dorothy.

Arrangements are with Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 North 300 West in Cedar City, (435) 586-4040.
