Joyce was the daughter of Walter and Clara Oakland Shupe. She married Clarence F. Burnett in 1945 in Afton. He preceded her in death after 65 years of love and happiness.

Joyce raised her family, and then worked at Borden's Chemical Co. in Bainbridge. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

At the time of her passing, Joyce was survived by her two devoted daughters, June and Natalie, nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, and a number of wonderful friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, Danny Burnett, brothers Robert and Walter Shupe, sister Elizabeth Smith, and brother-in-law Edward Morgan.
