He was retired from Stainless Tank as a welder and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of Catoosa Baptist Tabernacle where he was a church trustee and the Men's Bible Class secretary and treasurer. He was full of life, a very happy and giving person. He enjoyed Nascar, football, birds, gardening, motorcycles and listening to classic country music.
He was preceded in death by his wife Millicent Matthews, his parents William and Gusta Tallent Matthews and his brother Lloyd Matthews.
Survivors include his brother, Leroy (Eulene) Matthews, Sisters Helen Goldman of Jackson, MS, and Lynda Burns of Chickamauga, GA and several nieces, nephews, aunts and an uncle.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 17 at 11:00am in the South Crest Chapel with burial in the National Cemetery.
