Mary L (Stackhouse) Brown, 78, of 159 Martenas Road, Orangeville (Fishing Creek Township), died Friday morning Dec. 16, 2005, at her home. She had been in failing health for the past three years.
Born Sept. 23, 1927, in Eyers Grove, Madison Township, she was a daughter of the late Oscar L. and Elizabeth M. (Sherwood) Stackhouse. She and her husband, Fred E. Brown, celebrated 55 years of marriage on June 14.
Mrs. Brown had worked in various canning factories, including the GLF and the Bloomsburg Cooperative Canners. She later worked for the Campbell Soup Company and retired from Heinz Pet Products in 1990.
She attended schools in Jerseytown and Millville, Mary enjoyed gardening and yard sales.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, Fred, are her three brothers and four sisters: Helen G. Babb, Hughesville; Ada I Stackhouse, Millville; Lester C. Stackhouse, Antesfort; Dorothy A. Weaver, Montoursville; Ruth A. Harris, Williamsport; Jay R. Stackhouse, Rohrsburg; and Arnold O. Stackhouse, Stillwater.
She was preceded in death by five brothers adn two sisters: Harry P. Stackhouse on Dec. 26, 1967; Lawrence D. Stackhouse on Oct. 6, 1972; Calvin L. Stackhouse on April 22, 1973; George W. Stackhouse on Jan. 1, 1975; Martha A. Robbins on Dec. 6, 1980; Melvin M. Stackhouse on April 2, 1997; and Clara E. Wallis on May 15, 2000.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (Route 487), with the Rev. Charles E. Edwards, a family friend, officiating. A visitation will be held Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. at McMichael's. Private burial will be held in the Raven Creek Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contriburtions may be made in her memory to the American Caner Society, P.O. Box 3125, Williamsport, PA 17701 or the Berwick Home Hospice, 701 E. 16th St., Berwick, PA 18603.
